Western Pennsylvania Democrat Party Tactics Empty Western Pennsylvania Democrat Party Tactics

The Democrat Party outnumbers the Republican Party 5 to 1 in Western Pennsylvania, yet they feel the need to rig radio stations' online polls.

It strikes me as hilarious that the Democrat Party also vigorously opposes any laws that requires a voter to have a legal photo ID with him/her at the polling station to vote. This shouldn't be a surprise in an area of the country that has such a large cemetery demographic voting in every election.

PITTSBURGH - A city computer worker rigged a radio station's online poll that asked whether listeners believed local media has been unfairly critical of the mayor.

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and spokeswoman Alecia Sirk said the employee will not be disciplined because he rigged the KDKA Radio poll on his own time.

Sirk said the employee developed a computer program that let him get around the Web site's voting restrictions and bombard the poll with votes favoring Ravenstahl.

"He did it as a private citizen. He's well within his rights as a person," Sirk said. "People do it privately all the time for 'American Idol' and nobody investigates that."

After a debate Tuesday, Ravenstahl said, "As far as I'm concerned, it was all in good fun."

Sirk said she could confirm only that the employee cast pro-Ravenstahl votes in the poll about how the mayor was being treated by media.

"It wasn't the 'who's gonna win poll' it was the 'nitpicking poll,' " Sirk told Griffin, according to a tape of the show played for The Associated Press by KDKA Radio program director Marshall Adams.

Adams said KDKA is continuing to investigate the polls. He said the station has reason to believe the other polls were affected by the same city worker or others.

"Online polls are unscientific surveys," Adams said. "They can easily be manipulated, but this is all fun to watch."

INCONSISTENCY
The poll was posted on the KDKA Radio's Web page last week. It showed 86 percent of listeners believed media outlets were too harsh in coverage of recent scandals involving Ravenstahl, compared with 14 percent who didn't.

KDKA talk radio host Marty Griffin first aired the controversy Monday, when he suggested the employee had tampered with more than one poll on the station's Web site.

Two separate online polls asked listeners who they were supporting for mayor. One ended in favor of Ravenstahl and the other in favor of his Republican challenger, Mark DeSantis.

"How can two polls on the same station vary so greatly. How?" Griffin asked listeners.
