American forces gather near Iranian borders

Russian Intelligence has noticed a considerable amount of movement of American forces near the Iranian border. A high-placed official in the Russian military told RIA news that he has recieved information confirming that preparations are being carried out by American forces for a combined ground and air attack of Iran. The official said that the Pentagon has yet to make a final decision as to the timing of the operation. He is quoted as telling RIA news that "... The Pentagon is looking for the best plan of attack on Iran, which would put the country on it's knees while sustaining minimal [American] losses."

For the first time in four years, American naval prescence in the Persian Gulf has reached the same levels as were seen in March 2003, just before the invasion of Iraq.

On the 21st of March, the vice-president of the Academy of geo-political science, Leonid Ivashov said that he was certain that the Pentagon was planning a massive air strike on the Iranian military infrastructure in the near future.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) -- The U.S. Navy on Tuesday began its largest demonstration of force in the Persian Gulf since the 2003 invasion of Iraq, led by a pair of aircraft carriers and backed by warplanes flying simulated attack maneuvers off the coast of Iran.

The maneuvers bring together two strike groups of U.S. warships and more than 100 U.S. warplanes to conduct simulated air warfare in the crowded Gulf shipping lanes.

The U.S. exercises come just four days after Iran's capture of 15 British sailors and marines who Iran said had strayed into Iranian waters near the Gulf. Britain and the U.S. Navy have insisted the British sailors were operating in Iraqi waters. (Full story)

U.S. Navy Cmdr. Kevin Aandahl said the U.S. maneuvers were not organized in response to the capture of the British sailors -- nor were they meant to threaten the Islamic Republic, whose navy operates in the same waters.

He declined to specify when the Navy planned the exercises.

Aandahl said the U.S. warships would stay out of Iranian territorial waters, which extend 12 miles off the Iranian coast.

A French naval strike group, led by the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, was operating simultaneously just outside the Gulf. But the French ships were supporting the NATO forces in Afghanistan and not taking part in the U.S. maneuvers, officials said.

Overall, the exercises involve more than 10,000 U.S. personnel on warships and aircraft making simulated attacks on enemy shipping with aircraft and ships, hunting enemy submarines and finding mines.

"What it should be seen as by Iran or anyone else is that it's for regional stability and security," Aandahl said. "These ships are just another demonstration of that. If there's a destabilizing effect, it's Iran's behavior."

Things don't look good regarding Iran. Personally, I don't think that military conflict with them is a good idea at this time. I think this build up is more for sending a message than an actual plan to attack.

This is most probably due to the taking of the Brittish soldiers. Iran is breaking the Geneva Convention, if you are in uniform, which the soldiers were, then you can not be charged with espionage. Iran is playing a very dangerous game, they are pushing for conflict. Ahmadinejad is thinking his actions will bring about the end times.

I would be surprised is the US fires the first shot to Iran. I certainly hope they don't. This is a powder keg we are sitting on.

Well if you, err hit where they are building nukes, you could accidentally set them off.

How can a military person cry because of being called Mr. Bean? This is the result of capitulation. Their military is a laughing stock from this. Iran comes out looking strong, England looks like whimps.

I saw a bumper sticker the other day, Kerry and who ever he ran with for a strong america.

I never saw, but Churchill must be rolling in his grave, before he was PM he was captured in, I think the boer war, he fought his way to safety. compare that to these pansies.

I'm guessing the brits have done like we did here in canuckistan where you now have to be sensitive to new recruits instead of calling them down and trying to break them at every chance when they signed up to weed out the weak. Now the weak are allowed in which is bad.

yeah the brit military should have definately done more to prevent these people from selling their stories

and yeah, soldiers are supposed to be tough, rugged, disciplined, and i'm sure that's what these men and women prob are BUT

if you have a choice between dignity, respect, defending your country, etc, and a few million from a news agency for some tears and misery, you're gonna go with the tears and misery, especially on a soldier's salary

bottom line - the military should have prevented the press incident
