Merry Christmas v Happy Holidays
I really don't get this attack on Christmas.Americans get fed up with 'Happy Holidays'
But many Democrats in new poll can't stomach 'Merry Christmas'
A new poll finds Americans overwhelmingly prefer that stores use the phrase "Merry Christmas" in their seasonal advertising rather than "Happy Holidays.
The Rasmussen survey found 67 percent favor "Merry Christmas" while just 26 percent prefer "Happy Holidays."
---
While 88 percent of Republicans prefer "Merry Christmas," just 57 percent of Democrats favor the saying.

It is because Christmas has "Christ" in it, which represents his birth.Liberals hates christ and tries to do away with all things that has to do with Jesus Christ. That is why they are attacking Christmas and Easter.

Re: Merry Christmas v Happy Holidays
Funny thing, I was talking to a liberal who said she has such a strong belief in God and Christ. I asked how she felt about a town decision to remove the religious displays (which are put up by various groups, not the town) and she was "how unfair it is for us to force someone who doesn't believe to have to view such things."
Then I said, if you feel that way then why not advocate that your church remove any symbols from the outside. Sadly, she agreed. I then asked how strong is your belief if you feel that any displays or symbols are repugnant. She had no answer.
Its like this wierd disconnect get wired into the liberal thoughts. They are so passionate and compassionate that they look to exclude things rather than have things as inclusive.

^ Pretty much. The only reason most people get a "Holiday" vacation is because of Christmas, so if they hate Christmas so much then maybe they should go back to work while the rest of us celebrate.Southern_Solider75 wrote:It is because Christmas has "Christ" in it, which represents his birth.Liberals hates christ and tries to do away with all things that has to do with Jesus Christ. That is why they are attacking Christmas and Easter.

Happy Independence day to the nation of Suriname!
Concerning Christmas, I don't think it needs to have a religious bent if people don't want it to. You can celebrate the ideals of Christmas (i.e. giving, love) without believing in Christ. So no, I won't go to work on Christmas Day because I don't believe in God; I will spend a nice day with my family and reflect on the year that has been.

You obviously have no clue what Christmas really means.

Thats fine. But the only reason you have this day to reflect is because it happens to fall on December 25th, which is called Christmas. It doesn't sound right to be called Holiday-day, Holiday eve, holiday tree, holiday presents or holiday fucking cookies. Now go buy me a Christmas present.

Why, after all these years, should we change our history, our traditions?Bilbo Baggins wrote:Happy Independence day to the nation of Suriname!

How unprogressive of you kSM to not allow the socialists to destroy a religous holiday that 90% of America believes in.

Hey I'm not trying to change its name. It can have whatever meaning you want, I'm still gonna call it Christmas.

Did you even read what I wrote?! You don't have to change anything if you don't want to, but you have to accept some people don't celebrate Christmas for religious reasons (well, you actually don't even have to do that). Whats wrong with a holiday that promotes good values to everyone? Why do I have to believe in God to enjoy a holiday? I don't believe in the monarchy but I still get the Queens Birthday as a holiday (not the best example as probably none of you live in a Commonwealth country but I think it makes my point).

Re: Merry Christmas v Happy Holidays
How does Christmas promote good values to people when you take Christ and his example of out it? Take Christ out and you are left with no meaning to the day, no matter how you spin it.

Well, I'm going to have a great day and I don't believe in Christ. Somebody stop me from enjoying myself before I ruin the whole holiday with my loving, giving ways!

I'm not celebrating that at all, because I have no belief in Jesus or the Christian God. I'm celebrating my fellowship with the rest of humankind and promoting love and tolerance. You don't tell me what I'm celebrating.

Oh you can't stop me, we're fellows and I''m going to celebrate the brotherhood of man. You will be in my thoughts (though not my prayers as I won't be making any). Love and good tidings for all.
What an evil message I'm spreading.

Re: Merry Christmas v Happy Holidays
man you people get so carried away - yet another post that has degraded into personal attacks and the old - "you're wrong", "no, you're wrong" antic, the debate here wasn't about the meaning of Christmas but about political correctness and how it can go too far. I think stores, events etc should be free to choose between "happy holidays" and "merry Christmas" as they please, i think that Christmas tidings never hurt anyone in the past and that if you continue down this road of looking out for any and all minority interests you'll end up with bland and meaningless holidays because a certain greeting might offend someone. Listen to the people's wishes - you saw the poll, the majority of Americans think this is bullshit, and I think out of the 10% that didn't say it was bs, only a fraction of the polled people actually found "merry christmas" offensive... i don't even get who is pushing this crap anyway, no politician, lib, rep or indep is gonna push an issue without some kind of support, by people, by organisations etc, so the real question is, who's behind this agenda?
