Flag burning
OK, here is a volatile topic.
What do you think about flag burning? Should it be illegal to burn the American flag?
My opinion: NO. It is protected speech under the 1st Amedment. Disgusting speech and an idiotic act, but protected.
However, if I saw someone doing this, I might be inclined to have a private discussion with that person explaining how many people have died or been maimed protection what that flag stands (stood?) for.
Your thoughts?

Re: Flag burning
If the flag represents Obama, then they should all be burned. But it represents the US as a nation. A nation I believe is in freefall and will disappear from earth within my lifetime.
Anyone have a bail out plan for when that happens?

Re: Flag burning
I don't think it should be illegal, for the same reason as you mention Auschlander: it is a form of expression, whether you agree with it or not, and should not be repressed by the government.

Re: Flag burning
If someone paid for the flag that he is about to light up, go ahead and burn it. We'll make more. However one thing that someone should think about before expressing his freedom to light up a flag. That something is that most communities have laws concerning "fighting words". This means that even though you have the right to say those words, you should reasonably expect that those words would result in an act of violence against you. I would take someone exercising his freedom of speech by lighting up a flag in front of me as "Fighting Words".

Re: Flag burning
A lot of good men died for that "piece of cloth" and what it stands for. Many more have been carried to their final rest under it, some of them were family and friends of mine. One day, I will be carried to my rest under it. That is why I'm particularly protective of that "piece of cloth".Obama Rulz wrote:It's a piece of cloth.
