Athol man charged with rape of child

ATHOL — A 22-year-old local man who was baby-sitting his girlfriend’s 2-1/2-year-old daughter was arraigned in court yesterday in the alleged rape of the child.

He also allegedly slashed the child and set her blanket on fire.

Christopher C. Mundell, of 334 Crescent St., was arraigned on six charges in Orange District Court before Judge David S. Ross, including rape of a child by use of force, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife) on a child under 14, attempting to commit a crime, destruction of property valued at more than $250, possession of Klonopin and aggravated assault and battery.
