Which is perfect, because it would save the government the trouble of subsidizing unprofitable alternative fuels (at current oil prices). With the MidEast oil tap turned off, prices would go through the roof and private enterprise would begin producing cheaper alternative fuels for consumption. It’s a win win.
Except for the public who have to pay the prices till there is an alternative fuel. By then it probably won't matter, we will all be broke.

Nah. Most of the new technologies are already sitting on the shelf waiting for production. It may be that simply enhancing refining processes and other little tweaks will keep oil as a viable fuel.

And yet the left refuses to allow us to drill in areas that probably have more oil than the entire mid east combined. They also kill any attempt to build nuclear power plants and file lawsuits saying that wind generators kill migratory birds. Every hydroelectric dam project has been fought tooth and nail as damaging the ecology and the DEMS even killed the tax credit for putting solar power panels on your house.

Exactly what is the lefts plan for alternative energy sources. They love to talk about them but obstruct any attempt to make them viable for the general public.

Such is the Lefts plans for fighting terrorism too. There are tons of quotes from all the big DEM leftists about how we should disarm Saddam of his WMDs but they crap bright yellow bricks when someone has the huevos to actually do something about it.
