Remote-controlled planes could spy on British homes
Police could soon use unmanned spyplanes like those used to track enemy troops in Iraq and Afghanistan for surveillance operations on British homes.

The Home Office has suggested that the remote-controlled drones
could be used to help police gather evidence and track criminals
without putting officers at risk. The miniature aircraft could be
fitted with cameras and heat-seeking equipment, allowing police to
carry out aerial reconnaissance from a control room. They also
have the benefit of being quieter than conventional helicopters or
spotter planes and are much cheaper to run due to their fuel economy. However,
their use is likely to provoke opposition from people sceptical of
Britain's increasing use of surveillance equipment, who fear they
represent yet another example of the expansion of a Big Brother state.Plans to introduce the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is outlined in the Home Office's Science and Innovation Strategy. It
states: "Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are likely to become an increasingly
useful tool for police in the future, potentially reducing the number
of dangerous situations the police may have to enter and also providing
evidence for prosecutions and support police operations in 'real time'."It
adds: "We need to investigate how such vehicles could be used, and
their ability to provide high quality evidence for convictions."Ministers are speaking to the Civil Aviation Authority about the introduction of UAVs, some of which measure just 2ft across. There are safety concerns over the devices, some of which have been prone to crashing in use in battlefield situations.

But you know it wont. It will be used to keep tabs on their other citizens who dare to think maybe they are headed the wrong way and other non-stateists

How many Muslims have attacked us since 9/11? ZERO.
Which is a miracle considering how we've invaded their countries and murdered them by the hundreds of thousands!
People, Islam is not the enemy. Right wing fascism is the true enemy of freedom.

Re: Remote-controlled planes to spy on British homes
I made good money renting my motor home to the feds after Katrina. It was even returned clean and with plenty of gas in the tank.
I'm lucky the two legged rats that infest New Orleans didn't get it.

I got lucky. You didn't know who was going to get it when you leased it through the local company. The US Coast Guard got mine, and took good care of it. I've always been a big fan of the USCG. They just re-affirmend my point. I'd buy a beer for Coasties any time.
If FEMA had gotten it, it would have been ruined by ghetto trash.

It just so happens I'm into model rockets and RC planes. If they send one of these things over my house, I could take it down in a dog fight or with my own little SAM

Re: Remote-controlled planes to spy on British homes
I think there are a lot of uses for UASs in the civilian world (counter drug, border patrol, search and rescue, etc). I don't think they should be used directly against citizens as a constant watch, that is too much Big Brother.
There are a lot regulations within the US UAS (aka UAVs) community that prohibit the recon and surveillance of US citizens by the military who is the predominant user of UASs.
I'm some what of an expert on UAVs/UASs.

RF jamming won't bring down a UAS, it will just change the flight mode (from man controlled to automated). If anything it goes back to a predesignated spot.iluvfreebeer wrote:There are also ways to jam the radio controls:twisted:

I'll bet their are thousands of nerds who could make a jammer. And if it did just go back to a spot and circle, it probably wouldn't be over my house anymore.
But shooting it down would be a lot more fun
