saw a bit about this on tv, what do you guys think?

the argument being that 18 is the legal age to be an adult - 18 yr olds have right to posess a firearm, join the military, vote, work, pay taxes, get married, have children etc etc BUT this law remains

regulated drinking - instead of forbidding drinking you can regulate it by legalizing it

Like NC said, if there has to be an age, 18 should be it.

My parents let me drink at a young age, but under the agreement I could only drink a few and in front of them. It really took the mystery out of it all and I didn't become obsessed with drinking like many teens do.

Same here! My family drink when we meet up, we have wine on Thanksgiving etc, so it was nothing special to me when I went to my first party, I still seldom drink now

Yeah, it's not a family gathering if we don't get completely plastered. Whiskey is the drink of choice for us...expensive whiskey. The first party I ever went to was filled with nothing, but cops (local, county, and state). I still hold my own versus those my age.

The cheapest bottle I've bought lately is $60. The most I have spent on a single bottle is 120 Euros (but damn it was good).

It's none of the damn governments business. They should not be in the age of regulating who can have a glass of wine with dinner.

I say, get the rug rats drunk and sleepy so me and the old lady can go make more babies, or have fun trying.

Its 18 here in Australia. I don't understand the logic behind the 21 year old drinking age in America. Kids are drinking anyway, so its not as if its going to stop them from doing it. Maybe it just means more money in fines for the govt?

as I rethink this I think it really depends if a 17 joins the service he or she should be allowed to partake. Also Jasmine is right they all are drinking anyway!

It's none of the government's business. It's up to the parents.

The drinking age should be either/or any age if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian or 17 if in the military and 18 for all else.

Why is the government regulating this activity? I don't see anything about consumption of alchohol in the constitution of the uniteds states OR the constitutions of any state.

Not entirely sure. Perhaps its an acknowledgment of drinking's negative consequences on one's health, meaning people have to be of an age old enough to understand these consequences before they can drink?

A lot of things can have a negative impact on one's health, skateboarding, water skiing, scuba diving, free running, football, carpentry. The government needs to STFU.
