Madoff gets maximum 150 years in prison

NEW YORK -- Convicted swindler Bernard Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison today for fraud so extensive that the judge said he needed to send a symbolic message to those who might imitate his fraud and to victims who need relief.

Applause broke out in the crowded Manhattan courtroom after U.S. District Judge Denny Chin issued the maximum sentence to the 71-year-old defendant, who said he sought no forgiveness and knew he must live "with this pain, this torment, for the rest of my life."


The terms require the Madoffs to sell a $7 million Manhattan apartment where Ruth Madoff still lives. An $11 million estate in Palm Beach, Fla., a $4 million home in Montauk and a $2.2 million boat will be put on the market as well.

Do you think he got off easy or the punishment was to steep, I think 150 years is a life sentence and he deserved it, do you think some idiot will reduce his sentence on appeal? Discuss.

i heard that there was an appeal and that the sentence was reduced by 20 years that means he gets out when he's 201 years old

He got off easy.
But anyone who invested with him or anyone like him was a fucking moron.

the whole country was caught up in making risky investments, it's the same principle as with gambling - the average joe has a chance to put money on federer or tiger woods winning an event at 1.1 to 1 odds, he's not gonna do it, he'll be much more tempted to place a risky, 10-1 odds bet because the returns on it will be much better
